The Rao Foundation is proud to support the Center for Green Market Activation (GMA), a U.S.-based nonprofit working around the world to speed up the adoption of low- and zero-carbon fuels, materials, and services.
GMA builds new market tools that connect the companies making cleaner products with the buyers who want them. One of those tools is a “book and claim” system, which separates the environmental benefits of a product — such as its carbon savings — from the physical product itself, so they can be bought and sold on their own. That lets a buyer support cleaner goods and services even when those products aren’t yet available in their region. Just as importantly, GMA brings many buyers together so their combined demand sends a stronger signal to the market, helping promising companies scale up their low-carbon products faster.
Through the Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance — which GMA co-leads alongside EDF and RMI — it is helping bring new investment in the next generation of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Texas. After a competitive process that lasted nearly a year, SABA selected Infinium’s Project Atlas to supply SAF certificates to a group of corporate buyers. That long-term commitment is a key step in helping Infinium’s plant — which turns waste CO2 and renewable energy into a clean, drop-in liquid fuel — move toward final investment decision and, ultimately, full commercial operation.
GMA also announced earlier this year that its trucking program had channeled millions of dollars in private investment into putting 40 or more new heavy-duty electric trucks on the road between Dallas and Houston. With six corporate buyers and an innovative all-electric carrier called Nevoya taking part, the effort is expected to cut roughly 60,000 tons of CO2e and improve air quality for local communities.
GMA is now turning its attention to other industries that are especially hard to clean up — including cement, concrete, and chemicals — with additional announcements expected later this year. This kind of progress is only possible thanks to the generosity of philanthropic partners like The Rao Foundation, along with close collaboration with other nonprofits and forward-thinking companies. We’re proud to be part of it.
